The Mystery Is Over: Indiana Wahlburgers' Location Revealed

The famous Hollywood actors and their brother who started a restaurant business inspired by their favorite childhood foods, announced today their first Indiana location will be at a new mixed-use development currently under construction in Carmel.

Wahlburgers will open for business at the Proscenium in 2020 and the project’s developer, Tony Birkla, Novo Development Group Founder, said this commitment from Wahlburgers is confirmation of the development plan and the overall vision for the area.

“We couldn’t be more excited by this collaboration and to be a part of bringing Wahlburgers to Indiana, specifically to the Proscenium in Carmel,” Birkla said. “This is the type of anchor tenant a developer dreams of. Wahlburgers will make the Proscenium an even more desirable location.”

The restaurant has 26 locations nationwide. It has long been rumored that a location was coming to Indiana with much speculation on where the popular restaurant would call home.

“Luring a concept to any new market always has its challenges, but the Wahlbergs quickly became fond of Carmel and the culture that’s been decades in the making,” ALO Property Group’s Gary Perel said.  ALO Property Group is responsible for attracting quality tenants to the retail space in Proscenium for Novo. “We are in talks with additional restaurants that will be incredible amenities for all businesses and residents relocating to the Proscenium, as well as for the entire community.”

Proscenium, located at the northwest corner of Rangeline Road and Carmel Drive, is an 85-million dollar, mixed-use development currently under construction in Carmel. The development is centered around a nearly two-acre public green space and will include 196 luxury residential units, 20,000 square feet of retail space, 100,000 square feet of office space and 26 luxury condos. The project is being built on a sizeable below-ground parking garage to maintain the aesthetics of the project.

Nino Cutraro, managing partner of ACW Group, which is the largest franchisee of Wahlburgers, visited Carmel for the first time after just having opened a Wahlburgers in London, a few blocks from Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace. “It reminded me of a European city,” Nino said. “It is a beautiful place and we can’t wait to be part of the community.”

“Our ability to attract a marquee brand like Wahlburgers is another testament to our strategy of investing in Carmel’s quality of life and creating a unique central core that is vibrant, walkable and sustainable, giving us the opportunity to attract popular restaurants, as well as major corporate headquarters and small, high-tech businesses,” said Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard. “Our investment into underperforming areas such as this former abandoned party store is what will continue to draw hundreds of millions of dollars in private investment, helping to build a city that we can embrace and enjoy today and one that will be prosperous in the future.”

Proscenium, took its name from the proscenium arch, the archway of a theater that is the opening to the performance. The Proscenium offers “life, center stage” and is located in the new heart of Carmel. Construction on the development began in 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2020.
